How does laser welding work?

Laser welding is a good choice for welding technology in situations requiring very high precision, low heat generation, consistent and repeatable welds with high strength joints.

This fusion welding method joins materials together using a high-intensity laser beam. Also called laser beam welding, it’s a non-contact process where an extremely concentrated heat source is focused on cavities between workpieces.

The material on both sides melts, mixes together, and resolidifies to produce the fused part. Laser welding is increasingly used in industrial applications, because of the advantages it offers, such as high speed, high accuracy, low heat input and low distortion.
